The Friendly Farmers
The Friendly Farmers started with a simple goal: to connect our farm-grown products with a name you can trust. We want you to feel confident when you buy from us.
We’re working on growing and using eco-friendly farming methods. This means using natural materials like compost to support a healthy environment with lots of insects, birds, wildflowers, and nutrient-rich grass. It might not be the prettiest topic, but compost is a crucial part of keeping our countryside thriving, and we’re happy to use it to improve our eco-friendly practices!

Our History
Starting Up
In 2000 a family partnership between Rupert & Caroline Phillips was established
The Friendly Farmers have been based at Shelvin since 2000 and was originally bought with the aim breed warmblood horses, produce fodder, and house a successful Print Supply Business called Uk Euroconnect Ltd.Â
Development & Expansion
Between 2007 & 2010 the Farm began to thrive and expansion was essential
Farm buildings were converted and updated to accommodate the Stud and UK Eroconnect, whilst the agricultural side of the business grew swiftly. With the leasing of land locally and the purchase of a further 150 acres, we expanded and now owned the adjacent, Mallard Farm and its unused buildings.
Success & Continued Growth
Success is apparent as farm acreage increases to 500
We have grown in many ways over the years, diversifying into commercial lets, building a contract operation and expanding into hay, haylage and straw supplies. Throughout, we have been committed to producing animals and crops commercially, but also sympathetically. This has involved a growing understanding of regenerative farm practices and applying them to our land effectively. This is not an overnight switch but we continue to learn, grow and develop.
Companies We Work With
Over the years we have worked with numerous companies, local and otherwise. Whether it be supplying hay, collecting waste or using their services to support the Stud farm, we pride ourselves on building lasting business relationships.Â

Things We're Doing for the Environment
As farmers, we understand that some of the most important things happen below the ground, which is why we, as a company and your Friendly Farmers, aim to continuously strive for eco-friendly alternatives & practices.
Things We're Doing for the Environment
We feel we owe it to the earth and mother nature to help improve the lives and living conditions of all, above and below ground. As farmers, we understand that some of the most important things happen below deck. Worms, nematodes, arthropods, microbes and mycorrhizal fungal networks are all working incredibly hard to draw CO2 and more, from the atmosphere and place it back in the ground for a while. This improves soil quality and reduces greenhouse gases, maintaining a future for the rest of us world to live in. This is why we, as a company and your Friendly Farmers, aim to continuously strive for eco-friendly alternatives and practices.
Reduce, Reduce, Reduce!
We are taking information about artificial inputs on board and trying our best to reduce our need for them and instead turn to more natural processes and solutions. In doing this we have managed to reduce chemical inputs to near zero and reduced artificial fertilizers by 25%.
Stour River Project
We have partnered up with the Stour River Project to reduce runoff and improve water absorption. We hope to achieve this by increasing sward diversity and carrying out mob grazing with our horse young stock. The aim is to improve soil health, increase yield retain more water and increase absorption of rainfall per acre
Solar Panels
In early 2020 we needed a new storage facility for our crop and whilst we knew this was to be a rather large project, we decided to try and help the earth at the same time. We installed 14Kwh of solar panelling to the top of the barn roof which means for most of the year we can produce more than enough energy to power the whole farm, workshop and offices included!Â
